Retreat in Andalucia

1st - 6th September 2025

with Marisse & Sophia

Tucked away in the foothills of Andalucia, Southern Spain, this 5-night yoga retreat will offer a break from the busyness and bustle of life.

Surrounded by olive groves, birdsong and sweeping mountain views, join Sophia — my wonderful co-host! — and me as we settle into a slower pace of living. We're retreating to a traditional Spanish farmhouse, or Cortijo, complete with a pool, a few cats roaming around and the resident doggo, Lenny!

This retreat is for beginners and experienced yogis alike, with zero pressure to be "good" at any postures or sequences. You can come along solo, with a partner or with pals, and you're encouraged to be as social, active, quiet or potato-y as you want.

This is a space to help you connect to yourself – and maybe some like-minded people along the way – in a peaceful environment where all you need to ask is: "How do I want to spend my free time?"

Sound good? Join us in September 2025!

The Cortijo

The beautiful Spanish farmhouse is surrounded by 80 acres of land covered in olive groves and Spanish oak, with no immediate neighbours. It's a comfy but rustic 150-year-old building within a walled enclosure, ensuring peace and quiet. You'll have a courtyard garden, a large living room, a back terrace, dining areas with sunset views over the hills, and a large (20m) pool at your disposal. All bedrooms have an en-suite (some have balconies), with daily housekeeping available. The house is naturally ventilated, with doors and windows that allow some air to circulate, but there are also small fans in each room. Most original design features have been preserved, so the amenities and facilities are simple and traditional.

Every effort is made to make the Cortijo as eco-friendly as possible — water is sourced from the well on site and solar panels heat the water.

Feel free to contact either of us if you have any specific requests or questions.

The Yoga

We have a lovely indoor studio, complete with high-quality mats, bolsters, blocks and cushions. It has large windows facing the sunrise, overlooking rolling hills toward the Sierra de Loja mountains. There is also an outdoor yoga platform (with sail shade) facing the hills and olive groves to the south, which we'll use for al fresco practice.

Morning classes will be more energetic (flowing/vinyasa) and the evening classes will be more meditative (think yin/nidra/restorative styles).

All classes will include asana (posture/movement), pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation, with some yoga philosophy chats woven in. But don't worry, you don’t need to know yoga terms to practice! Both (Marisse/Sophia) and I prioritise a low-pressure, welcoming, enjoyable environment in class.

We're also more than happy to take requests on styles/types of classes, as we want you to have the best experience possible! The class lengths are longer than a typical studio class, so we can take our time and cover the deeper aspects of yoga postures, alignment, or philosophy.

Our classes are designed so that everyone in the group will be able to join, whether you're new or experienced. It’s a practice for all to enjoy without the angst of having to look or be a certain way. Do you!

Get to know us!

You may or may not know us as teachers, so here’s a little bit about each of us…

Marisse Gaskell,
I’m passionate about making yoga inclusive, engaging, and tailored to individual bodies, I teach with a lighthearted approach while geeking out on yoga philosophy. I believe a yoga retreat allows everyone to do their thing, on and off the mat, without pressure.

Sophia Tupy,
Sophia is a yoga and creative movement facilitator from California, who likes to explore accessible and enjoyable movement, rest and how our nervous systems change how we move. For her, retreats offer a nourishing space for more connection with community and joy.

While the two of us have different backgrounds and styles of facilitating, we do have a lot in common!

If you nudged our two circles together, our Venn diagram overlap includes:

  • Advocating accessible yoga practice

  • Nerdiness about hypermobility and approachable yoga poses

  • Prioritising community and diversity over hierarchy, in all senses

  • Deep obsession with potatoes

  • Not so secretly competitive in card, board and team games

  • Arguably too much love for Staffies considering neither of us has a dog

  • Placing high value on silliness and laughs

… retreat with us, we can’t wait to have you!

Getting there

The nearest airport is Malaga, about an hour away by car. If flying into Malaga, I recommend arriving at the airport between 12:30 - 2:00 PM so everyone can share a transfer. I'll organise a transfer from the airport (which will make transport from the airport most cost-efficient). For the return flight, I recommend any flight from 14:00. If you prefer a late flight, you can spend the afternoon in Malaga before heading to the airport.

I’m happy to discuss travel options with you – some people have travelled by train into Malaga and joined the group transfer at the airport.

What’s included

  • All yoga classes with Marisse and Sophia

  • Yoga mats and props – a fully equipped studio!

  • 5 nights' accommodation with en-suite

  • Food (three meals a day plus snacks, tea, coffee during the day)

  • Bed linen, towels and pool towels

What’s not included

  • Travel costs: flights to and from Malaga (nearest airport)/trains/transfers (though we will plan to organise a group transfer from/to Malaga airport for cost efficiency)

  • Travel insurance – strongly advised that you arrange beforehand

  • Additional activities (e.g. massages) and day trips outside of the retreat (e.g. Granada trip)

  • Alcohol – you are welcome to enjoy some wine/beer in the evening (there will be wine available for purchase from our chefs or you can buy beforehand/in Granada on the day trip)
